OK, I'm on the spot here....no clue yet as to what my thesis is. Going to leaf through American Born Chinese for a minute......
I have been thinking for a while about Chin-Kee, perhaps writing about how he is there to remind Jin of his background, serving as almost an alter-ego. I'm just unsure which group of panels to use. Could I use them all? I think so, I don't think it would be too broad or difficult.
What does everyone think?

I think that is a good idea. I never really thought about it, but he kind of is his alter-ego. Good topic
I like your idea for a thesis! Although you could use all the panels that pertain to this I think it would be most effective if you chose a few...this way you have something to work with but you don't have to much...maybe pick the few sets you see as most fitting/interesting. good luck :)
I think you could narrow your focus on a few of the panels featuring Chin-Kee. There is so much there in the colors used to depict him. You could talk about the yellowish color used for his skin and what that has to do with stereotypes of Chinese people. You could talk about the way the author has written his speech to convey an over the top Chinese accent.
just be careful you don't get too vague or wander in lots of directions with this- good subject though.
I agree with your classmates Joe. Good topic, but a more narrow focus will suit you better in a "close reading" situation :)
